    • BEA Attendance Low in Los Angeles
    This year’s location for BookExpo America (BEA), which took place in Los Angeles from May 29 to June 1, resulted in poor attendance and overall low energy. Total registration was 28,494, down from over 36,000 registrants in 2007.

    10th Latino Book Awards Go to Popular and Under-the-Radar Titles
    The winners of this year’s International Latino Book Awards included best sellers like Rhonda Byrne’s El Secreto (The Secret, Atria Books) and Isabel Allende’s La suma de los días (The Sum of Our Days, Rayo), as well as less-familiar titles from small, independent (and unorthodox) publishing houses.

    Call for Reviewers!!

    Críticas is seeking librarians to review Spanish-language books on a range of subjects, especially autobiography/ biography; commercial and/or literary fiction (includes original works in Spanish & world literature in translation); reference (e.g., dictionaries, encyclopedias, ESL/ language guides, etc.); religion; and self-help.

    Reviewers should be familiar with general collection development in public and academic libraries and be willing to review books on a regular basis.
